Aloha

John decided to go for a run in the morning. The views were awesome as he ran along the beachfront.

Sadly not everyone had a home to go to
IMG_8132-2011-09-29-22-11.jpg

Perhaps there were some who couldn’t decide which home to go to
IMG_8133-2011-09-29-22-11.jpg

Early morning, there were plenty of places to lock your bike to
IMG_8176-2011-09-29-22-11.jpg

Some had decided to relocate the bike parking options
IMG_8179-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

We had decided to go for a drive around the island. Jen picked out a car that suited her style.
IMG_8187-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

The girls seemed pretty comfortable with the car, if not John’s driving style.
IMG_8188-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

First stop was walk to to the top of Diamond Head, a very famous crater in Honolulu. It is an intriguing walk to the top.
But it is hard work. Fascinating to see people walking it in heels.
Rel powered up these climbs though

Jen was psyching herself up… ‘I can get there’
IMG_3242-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

Had a photo stop part way up
IMG_3244-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

Rel admired the view part way up
IMG_3248-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

It was then time to tackle the ‘small steps’
IMG_3249-2011-09-29-22-11.jpg

We walked through the cave
IMG_3254-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

The it was the ‘big steps’, and John just focussed on the shoes in front of him. He was so relieved to hear Rel call ‘Only 3,2,1 steps to go’
IMG_3256-2011-09-29-22-11.jpg

Another tunnel
IMG_3257-2011-09-29-22-11.jpg

Then the climb out of the bunker
IMG_3260-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

And we pressed on to the final set of steps to the top
IMG_3264-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

The views from the top were amazing
IMG_3265-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

IMG_8192-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

How good was it to get to the top, finally
IMG_3266-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

IMG_3268-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

Then we walked back down… Via the claustrophobic staircase
IMG_3272-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

the long steps down
IMG_3274-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

the steps seem a lot worse when seen from the bottom… and John had been sweating up a storm as it was brutally hot
IMG_3277-2011-09-29-22-11.jpg

Jen was so glad to find her way out of the cave
IMG_3281-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

IMG_3285-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

Once all the way down, the girls raced for the shaved ice - it really was warm
IMG_3286-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

The it was time to do some cruising in the Audi
IMG_8203-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

Rel seemed to like the car
IMG_8215-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

a lot ...
IMG_8220-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

We hit Waimea Bay for a swim
IMG_3290-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

IMG_3291-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

Rel and Jen just did not want to leave the water. They were ‘home’.
IMG_3295-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

Then it was time to check out the Bonzai Pipeline on North Shore, although it was a little quiet on this day.
IMG_3301-2011-09-29-22-11.jpg

Rel dropped onto the beach to suss out the action, being the beach girl that she is.
IMG_3304-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

IMG_3305-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

One of the local surfers deliberated before heading out
IMG_8222-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

Rel spotted some paparazzi lurking...
IMG_8224-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

The beach still looked inviting for a swim though
IMG_8229-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

It was then time to check out some cute little villages
IMG_3318-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

IMG_3324-2011-09-29-22-11.JPG

After heading back to Honololu. Ange and Jen crashed after a long day, but John and Rel were still fired up.

So they found a Japanese restaurant and had fun. Rel was a star, and all the staff in the restaurant wanted to talk Japanese, and her experiences of Japan. John was just glad he had someone who could read the menu for him
