Getting from BrizVegas to LA

Our trip is basically California, Hawaii, then home. You would have thought the cheapest option for flights would be Brisbane - LA - Honololu - home.
But no. In the end we saved ourselves a bucket load of cash by booking all the flights ourselves, and working out our own flights.
The only downside is that getting to LA meant BRI-SYD-HON-LA. Not too bad, but of course it means some more fun along the way.

For those who like stats, it took us 28 hours of travel, 16 hours on the air, 2 hours of sleep, no time in bed, and no change of clothes in that time.
Love it! Note sure my fellow passengers would agree though.

But so many interesting things happen.
Reading airline magazines is cool, because they are so disconnected from real life.

Being a chose one
As we were about to board the SYD-HON flight, one of the staff approached John and said “You have have been selected for a …” I immediately thought “upgrade to first class”. But no. I had been chosen for a ‘detailed screening’. When going through Customs Rel had already been screened twice, so I thought this was no big deal.
Until I was taken away to a specially curtained off area. Interesting. Then officer started to put on the rubber gloves. Really interesting :-0

Getting relaxed
After that we spotted the message chairs. A bit gimmicky I thought until we tried them. For $2 it was awesome in getting rid of some tension, bad memories, and sorting out a tight neck and back. Sadly they were a bit large to put in our onboard luggage.

Things people say
Some people amaze me. Whilst standing in queue to board the plane, this lady says to the toddler child in her arms ‘No one would think you were a terrorist would they’. I’m thinking ‘What the …’. This lady looks around and says to herself ‘I probably should not say things like that’. I’m thinking ‘The gene pool needs a little more chlorine’

Rel started her ‘coffee critique’ part of the Tour today. She’s decided to critique coffees and work out which is the best one out of all the different places we visit.
I like my coffee, but I’ll take on the role of the ‘red wine critique’. Those reviews may be left for the ‘Adults Only’ version of this blog.

Whilst having a coffee Rel spotted a group of ladies wandering by with tshirts that said ‘The 50 party’. Rel chipped in and say , ‘so am i’. I loved the priceless look and comment from the soon-to-be-50 lady ‘You are not serious, you look way too young to be 50’. That’s my girl!

Saving money
We are trying out Jetstar’s low cost service to Hawaii. Talk about turning back the clock. One or 2 screens drop down from the ceiling for all passengers, and everyone has to watch the same thing. Priceless. But the true highlight is that they are showing the series based on Rel’s life. Yep, WonderWoman. As a little kid growing up I liked the show but had not understood the real attraction. I am spoilt to live life with the real WonderWomen! - Side note : WonderWoman is now having a roll in the grass / cat fight with another woman dressed in a monkey suit. I thought this was a G rated show! As a kid attaching the show, I really had no idea what was going on.

Had a stopover in Honololu before charging to LA

Both our batteries were starting to flame out as we closed in on LA. Here’s John pretending to look alive on the plane not long before landing…

Landed in LAX just before midnight, Hotel shuttle collected us and we were checked in by 12.30. A little bit of room serveice to take the edge of the hunger, and then it was time to crash and sleep.
