Getting to Napa Valley

After leaving the national park, it was time to head for the Napa Valley.
We had accommodation booked in Santa Rosa, in a secluded and remote location up in the north of Napa valley.

We expected a straightforward, uneventful drive.
It started off well with some interesting sights.

But then our GPS stated to think for itself, we didn’t pay enough attention to the maps, there was roadworks, we were running low on fuel, running way behind our time schedule. John was loving every moment of it. This was adventure.

Jen meanwhile continued to make sure she always looked presentable, even if it was just in the back seat.

We found a Maccas, where we could eat, refuel, and reset our bearings. Little did we know what lay ahead.
But we did receive a phone cal from Rel’s friend Lee who is now travelling through the USA. She was having her own flight schedule dramas, so we did not feel too bad then.

As for finding our accommodation… We got stuck in a traffic jam that pretty much seemed to be in the middle of nowhere.
We were looking for Gates Rd. To cut a long story short, our GPS unit had sent us to the wrong Gates Rd, about 30 minutes away from the one we wanted.
John was loving every minute of this adventure. Heading up narrow windy little tracks where you could not turn around… and finding the street was a dead end.
It was awesome. But we did finally make it to our destination in daylight, which was the objective.
